School Story:

BLA in Landscape Architecture NCSU 1966 after which I stayed in Raleigh designing large scale golf resorts or communities llike Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, Carolina Trace in Sanford, Large malls Tyscon Corner Mall and Landover Mall both in Wash D.C., moved to Miami to design golf courses and golf developments ,in Florida, Australia, Mexico, California, the Bahamas,
Florida Keys and Cauasco. Went to D.C. to design large communities in Denver-The Pinery, Salt Lake City-Stansbury Park,New Orleans- Belle Terre, Maryland-Lake Linganor. Returned to Raleigh to prepare the Master Plan for the N.C. Zoological Park in Asheboro, Hidden Hills Community in Jacksonville, Florida and then took a year off to teach Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. till the winter got to me and I returned to Raleigh and have been practicing here since. The latest project was the Master Plan for Wakefield Plantation Development in Raleigh and the rehabilatation of the Great Lawn in Central Park in NYC. Life is much simplar now as I am still very active in my practice altho limited.

So sorry to hear about LaMarr---he and I were in the same Boy Scout troop--the highlight of those years was the trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in NM--backpacking in the mountains, so high up that there was snow sometimes, even though this was July---LaMarr's father took off from his job to organize and lead our expedition, including hiking with us---he too was a wonderful man---like father, like son. --John Shelburne
