In Memory

Charles Medlin

Charles Medlin

Charles Edward Medlin, age 66 and resident of Durham, entered into eternal rest on May 16, 2009 while at the beach. Born in Franklin County, he was the son of Annie Bell Morrison and the late John David Medlin. A graduate of Chowan College, Charles was a sales associate with Triangle Communications.
He was a member of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class.

Charlie lived each and every day to the fullest with lots of spunk and energy. He loved going to work and kept on working even after "retirement." He could talk to anyone which in turn brought him an array of friends at church, his neighborhood, his clients in the printing business, and many more. He enjoyed spending his weekends working in the yard, relaxing at his beach house at Ocean Isle, NC, watching Duke play basketball, and spending time with his grandchildren. You could find "Gramps" on the floor playing trains, in the yard playing baseball or football, and even riding the thrill rides at Walt Disney World. His smile and his love of life will be missed by all that knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine Noell Medlin; a daughter, Lynn Marie Medlin of Hampton, VA; three sons, Joseph Keith Medlin and wife, Michelle of Clayton, John Heith Medlin and wife, Kelly of Graham and Mark Noell Medlin and wife Caroline of Greensboro, his mother, Annie Bell Morrison of Wake County; one sister, Marie Baker of Raleigh ; one brother, John David Medlin, Jr. of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Calli, Johnathan and Carter Medlin, Aaron and Ashley Lanphere and Shelby Medlin.

A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church. The Reverends Roger Owens and Ginger Thomas will preside. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to Duke Memorial United Methodist Church, 504 W. Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701 or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231-4596.

Charlie and I were both in Mr. Farmer Smith's vocational program and the best of buddies.

We learned there the beneifts of hard work and went on to successful careers.

Charlie worked as a cook at Finches Restaurant and was a real hit there, especially with all of the Waitresses whom he love to tease.  Every night he would delight in being able to server as a taxi to anyone there who didn't have transportation home.  He was always funny, had a joke to tell and rose above life's adversities.

Being gifted with an extrovert personality, Charlie was always upbeat, even in difficult times.

Today, over a half century past high school, and having survived Charlie, I'm convinced that Almighty God is using Charlie's many talents in the life beyond.

Yes, Mr, Melvin, You encouraged us to strive to get ahead,  roar with laughter, proud of who were and  looking back now we  realize that you were a  Giant among our classmates at  Broughton.
