Carolyn Tyner Fox, 73, of Perry, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Saturday, September 24, 2016. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Reagan Hamilton Fox III, her mother, Verdie Belle Tyner, and her father, Marion Elmerse (Amos) Tyner of Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Perry, Florida, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, with Pastor Tyler Campbell officiating. Interment followed at Boyd United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Carolyn was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended and graduated from Needham Broughton High School and Peace College in Raleigh. She married her high school sweetheart, Reagan, on January 26, 1964.
After graduating college, Reagan and Carolyn moved to Etowah, Tenn. and then moved to Perry in 1967. She worked as a paralegal for several local attorneys in Perry, Don Dansby, Byron Butler and Mike Smith. In 1993, she joined her husband in his business, R.H. Fox Logging. Upon Reagan’s death, Carolyn managed R.H. Fox Logging until September, 2015.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry, the Perry Elks Club, Perry Golf and Country Club and for the past several years, she was a volunteer at Our Father’s Storehouse. She was an avid bridge player and had played with the same group of friends for over 40 years.
She is survived by her daughters Cathryne Fox Newport (Roby) and Cynthia Fox Brown (Michael); grandchildren Carolyn (Carly) Ann Newport, Cathryne Grace (Gracie) Newport, Charles Hamilton (Charlie) Newport, Hayley Ciara (Sissy) Padgett and Michael (Mikey) Kevin Brown, Jr.; her sister, Joan T. Curtis; niece Christa W. Lacombe; brother James L. Tyner; niece Jessica Tyner as well as many friends and faithful employees.

We lost a ray of sunshine with the passing of our classmate, Carolyn Tyner Fox.
She had a sometimes charming, sometimes wicked smile…but always a smile.She had a jest for life and it was infectious. I am sure that was a part of what drew fellow classmate Reagan Fox to her. They were a perfect adoring match.
Carolyn, Judy Karangelen, Priscilla Price and I grew up within blocks of each other and Carolyn was a real friend to each of us. I will never forget on the day of my 16th birthday, looking out the window of my house and seeing Carolyn leading a brigade of classmates marching down the street to retrieve me and whisk me off to Gattis Pharmacy for an ice cream sunday birthday celebration!
We were in each other’s weddings. When we were both living in Florida, I spent a fun weekend at their home in Perry. In later years, Carolyn would visit my aging mother when she came to Raleigh. We stayed connected over the years if it was only birthdays or holiday remembrances.
Some years ago, we found ourselves at the same senior living facility in Raleigh. Her mother was there as was my aunt. It was a time of reconnection for us.
We communicated more as Reagan became ill and passed away in 2013. She took over running their logging company after he died simply to be sure that the men who had worked for them for many years would not be without employment. It was not until she found a buyer who would take all her workers that she sold the company.
The sale was very timely in that she called this spring to tell me that she was not well. She remained upbeat throughout her illness even though her stress was compounded by the loss of her home to fire. She took on the task of rebuilding and was able to live there with the assistance of her children until her passing.
She embodied the title of “loyal friend” throughout her life. She is missed.

Thanks Gloria for a great write up on Carolyn Tyner Fox. I did not know her personally but remember her face & name. You wrote a beautifu & very touching recap of her life. If she can get the Broughton Alumni website on her PC in Heaven, I am sure she is most pleased with you as a TRUE FRIEND, & she is saying " WAY TO GO GIRL ". Your lines about the unplanned reconnecting at a Raleigh Nursing Home; her taking over the running of the logging company after the loss of Reagan, to protect the workers; and Carolyn remaining upbeat in the end, despite the house fire, are most touching comments.
