John Wesley Wilkes III, of Knoxville, TN passed away June 3, 2021. John was born September 21, 1943 in Raleigh, NC. He served 3 years in the US Army as a Commissioned Officer. He was a graduate of NC State University in Raleigh, NC, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After his retirement from Michelin Tires, John enjoyed golf and Nascar races. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Carrie Atkinson of Franklin, VA, John and Ethel Wilkes of Raleigh, NC; parents, John Wesley Wilkes, Jr. and Rose Wilkes of Raleigh, NC; brother, William Robert Wilkes. Survived by wife, Miriam Wilkes; sons, John Wesley Wilkes IV, Robert Christopher (Lori) Wilkes. He was a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Cullen, Garrett, and Hadley Wilkes. A visitation at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd. Knoxville, TN 37932, will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 pm at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery at 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, with Pastor John Baker officiating.
