David Peterson probably would have been a tremendous science professor. His inquisitive mind led him to questions most of us would never dream of. While some of us might doodle meaningless scribbles on our class notes, David would sketch rocket ships. He was a gentle soul, a science whiz, and a huge science fiction fan.

When my family and I moved from St. Mary's Street to Brooks Avenue the summer after graduation from Broughton, David and Harold Duke pitched in with a huge portion of the heavy lifting and transporting of household items.

David attended N.C. State University. He married Millie Duvall, sister of Lakey Duvall in our graduating class, and they had two sons and a daughter. The family lived about a decade in Goldsboro, where David followed a successful career with GE.

David was tragically killed in his front yard when a driver careened off the road and struck him.

One episode sums up David's character. His mother passed away while he was attending State. An older relative was discussing taking care of the survivng adult children. The compassionate lady said to another woman, "You can have David's brother if you want, but I'll fight you for David!"

We miss you and your tales of Ferdinand Feghoot the XXIII, David.
