When Jimmy and I were in junior high school, he'd say at the end of the school day, "Time to go home and watch my Westerns on TV." He was a big fan of "Tombstone Territory," "Wells Fargo," "Wagon Train," "Cheyenne," and others almost too numerous to mention.

I shared a little of his enthusiasm, but my tastes ran more toward "Maverick"--although two of my favorite movies in any genre are High Noon and Shane, portraying two heroes on opposite sides of  the law.

Through the years, I've come to realize that Jimmy lived his life pretty close to the Code of the West, without the gunfire and bloodshed: squarely facing the tasks ahead of us, taking on responsibilities, and treating everyone fairly.

Jimmy had the right idea, of course. We need more people who maintain an orderly society that benefits everyone as much as possible--not wisecracking gamblers.

RIP, Jimmy. You set a good example for us all.

Sorry to hear of Jim's death. I knew Gayle for many years as we were in the same Sunday School Class and members of North Street Baptist Church. I met Jim through other friends as we were beginning to attend Broughton. Didn't run with him during school, but always saw Gayle and her sister at church.  I agree with William that he was a straight shooter and always displayed the best of what Broughton taught us to be.

RIP Jim
